There will also be a discussion on keeping the legislators with cases and criminal history out of electoral politics. The debate is not new and it has been going on for a long time. The top court in the country, the Supreme Court said the same a few months back.
Usually, people only talk about the MLAs’ and MPs’ criminal history and cases that are pending against them. But no one talks about the Chief Ministers and their history. A leading media outlet compiled the data after analyzing the election affidavits they submitted to the top election body.
Talking about the richest Chief Ministers in the country, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is at the top position with assets worth Rs 370 crores. No Chief Minister is close to him in terms of Assets.
Shockingly no other Chief Minister has assets worth over Rs 100 crores except one CM. Arunachal Pradesh’s Pema Khandu is the second richest person on the list as his assets stand at Rs 132 crore. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the poorest Chief Minister with Rs 15 lakhs.
As far as criminal cases are concerned. Telangana Chief Minister KCR tops the list with 64 cases followed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with 47 and 38 cases respectively.
As KCR actively took part in the Telangana bifurcation movement many cases were filed against him and this might be the reason behind him topping the list. Talking about YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he is accused of having disproportionate assets. He even got arrested for this.
The media outlet found some interesting details after analyzing the data. The report also found that a few Chief Ministers have firearms with them. Sikkim CM Tamang has a revolver while Maharashtra’s Eknath Shinde owns a revolver and a pistol.
Monk-turned-Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath who is from the most populated state in the nation Uttar Pradesh has two weapons, a revolver, and a rifle. Jharkhand’s Soren and Uttarakhand’s Dhami also won firearms and listed the same in the election affidavit.
