No relief for flood and rain victims in AP, even as Telangana rushes to rescue

A major depression is causing nonstop rains in the 2 Telugu states. As a result, many areas are literally drowning in the rainwater that is getting clogged everywhere. Hyderabad is still in a drowned position, with several areas, with a lot of property loss and other loss.

The Telangana government has announced relief kits, within which one can find daily essentials and three blankets, which would be able to help a family immediately. Minister KTR even announced that the value of these kits would be around Rs. 2,800 each. Everyday, relief kits are being sent at a priority basis to all the areas that have been affected the most. While this may not be a long term solution to the devastation that has been caused, it most certainly is helping out people right now.

On the other hand, the Andhra Pradesh government hasn’t even looked into the flooding of the state, and how people of the state are coping up with it. Since Andhra Pradesh has a long coastal line, people living in coastal areas are always subjected to some sort of natural calamities. This time too, many people had to be shifted to rehabilitation centers, because of the heavy devastation the current rains have caused.

The AP government neither announced a relief package, nor seems to be announcing one. Instead, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that Rs. 500 should be given to each family that has been affected – and that too, to only those people who are in rehabilitation centers. No other package has been announced to come to the rescue of the people who have been hit the hardest.

The same thing happened during the 2019 floods, the package that was announced in 2019 was given to the people in 2020, and now speculations have already begun as to when the 2020 package would be given to the people. A lot of people have been criticising the government, especially the oppositions, for its lack of action during a time when it needs to act in the most steadfast manner.
