Now, Babu Wants ‘Ballot Papers’

In a recent video that went viral, an Aam Aadmi Party MLA in the Delhi Assembly gave a live demonstration of EVM tampering and how any party can manipulate the EVM and make any of the options voted for count as the vote for its own party. Highlighting this issue, there has been a debate among several political leaders about EVM tampering and why we need to switch back to the traditional ballot paper voting system.

Most recently, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu is the one who brought up this issue and highlighted that there could have been chances of EVM tampering in the recently concluded Telangana elections. Stating that even the US and other developed countries still follow the traditional Ballot Paper voting system, he urged Indian government to switch back to it from EVMs.

“After protesting against only EVM method of voting, they introduced VVPAT slips,” he said, adding that EVMs could be misused and manipulated easily by the companies manufacturing them. The best way forward for 2019 Lok Sabha elections is to go back to the reliable ballot paper method of voting, he demanded.
