BJP seems to be the new entrant in joining the chorus against shifting Andhra Pradesh capital from Amaravathi to any other location in Andhra Pradesh.
BJP AP unit president Kanna Laxminarayana today expressed serious concern over the reported moves of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy to shift the capital from Amaravathi.
Kanna said if this happens it will prove to be ‘disastrous’ for AP.
Kanna even claimed that Jagan had earlier supported capital in Amaravathi when he was opposition leader and Jagan should continue Amaravathi as capital now.
Kanna said thousands of farmers who gave away over 35,000 acres of fertile land for Amaravathi are now spending sleepless nights due to reports on capital shifting from Amaravathi.
They lost agriculture and compensation too as the government stopped paying them monthly pension for the past few months in lieu of surrendering their lands for Amaravathi.
Kanna said farmers are deeply worried and tensed after minister Botsa Satyanarayana recently made adverse comments on Amaravathi saying that Amaravathi is not a suitable place to have capital as it is prone to flooding.
Kanna condemend Botsa’s remarks on Amaravathi saying that there are many capitals in India and abroad which are located adjacent to rivers and it’s wrong to scrap Amaravathi capital city just because it is located near the Krishna river.
He demanded AP CM Jagan to make his stand clear on the status of Amaravathi immediately to clear apprehensions among AP people and Amaravathi farmers.
He said BJP will stand in support of Amaravathi capital and Amaravathi farmers if YSRCP government takes decision to shift capital from Amaravathi and BJP will take up agitation programmes against this move.
