Actors turning into directors is not new to the film industry. From the legendary NTR to Vishwak Sen, many actors have been able to make the transition quite smoothly. Recently, Tollywood actor Raj Tarun expressed his wish of directing a film one day. During a chat with us, the Uyyala Jampala actor told us how he has been penning quite a few stories since the time he got a grasp on writing. He said, “Even before I made my debut into films as an actor, I had this wish of directing a film one day. I have this habit of penning down scripts and hopefully, one day, I will be able to direct them. For now, my focus is on acting as my schedule is packed. I have two releases in 2021 and I am excited about them.”
So, does he have a favourite director? The Kumari 21F actor says, “ I share a special bond with Vijay Kumar Konda. Even before the release of our first movie together, we started working on our second film. We have even started shooting for the yet-to-be-titled film. I think he is a very skilled director who always brings fresh new stories to the table. After this, I will be seen in a debutant director’s film. During this lockdown, I have been reading a lot of scripts and came across some really interesting ideas by young directors. I will be announcing them as soon as they are finalised.”
With the debate about insider-outsider and nepotism raging on in Bollywood, what are his thoughts on the topic? He said, “As an outsider, I have never lost an opportunity due to nepotism. But I feel, as an outsider, you have put in that much more effort to survive in the industry. However, the Telugu industry has always been open to talent, so if you are talented, you will survive.”
