Opinion: Nandi Awards or Nandamuri Awards!

It is open secret that Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is an elected MLA from Hindupur constituency in Andhra Pradesh, wields complete power as far as movie related issues concerned in AP Government.

Many reports appeared that Balakrishna is totally involved in Nandi Awards Jury committee.

As expected, the 2014 Nandi Awards turned out to be NBK Awards as Balakrishna’s “Legend” bagged total 9 awards that include Best Film and Best Director for Boyapati Srinu. NBK himself won Best Actor Award.

“Legend”, a pure mass masala movie with little artistic values, winning Best Film Award itself is a farce.

The relationship between Boyapati and AP Chief Minister is well-known to all. While more deserving film “Manam” received only four awards in unimportant categories, “Legend” took away nine awards in major categories. Entire 2014 Awards has the stamp of Balakrishna.

Even in the year 2015, the Nandamuris bagged Nandi’s. Master NTR, Hari Krishna’s grandson and son of late Nandamuri Janaki Ram, won Best Child Actor for “Daana Veera Soora Karna” and the film also took the award for Best Children’s Film.

Although “Baahubali” deserves awards, this is the first time that a movie is winning 15 Awards. Rajamouli’s family is very close to Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Nandamuris.

While the lead hero Prabhas got snubbed, the epic-fantasy drama took away all Nandis leaving little scope for other films.

In year 2016, NTR Jr was given Best Actor award, which is deserving as he gave good performances in ‘Nannaku Prematho’ and the film won about six awards in all.

Awards for year 2014, 2015 and 2016 were announced by AP Government and of all these years, 2016 seems a bit fair.

All in all, it is clear that the Nandi Awards have heavy influence of Balakrishna.
