Writer-director Shiva Nirvana said that he is a huge fan of Mani Ratnam. He penned the lyrics for ‘Naa Roja Nuvve’ which was literally a tribute to the legendary filmmaker. The entire song is filled with Mani Ratnam’s movie titles. After looking at the trailer, the audience are pointing out that Shiva might have gotten inspired by one of Mani Ratnam’s classic film ‘Sakhi’ while penning the story of ‘Khushi’.
As we know, ‘Sakhi’ which came out in 2000 had Madhavan and Shalini playing lead roles. The movie is about a young couple who fall in love with each other and get married despite their families not approving of them. After a smooth start, their marriage life begins to face a lot of hurdles. Them staying together despite all their differences gives a happy ending to the movie.
After watching the trailer of ‘Khushi’, one gets a feeling that the Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha starrer has an exact story. Shiva Nirvana added the religious angle and wrote the scenes in a new way but the basic storyline looks exactly the same according to a lot of netizens. A lot of meme pages have already started trolling the ‘Khushi’ team and posting that Shiva Nirvana really got inspired by Mani Ratnam’s work and took the senior filmmaker’s story too.
While we will get to know how different ‘Khushi’ is from ‘Sakhi’ when the movie hits the screens on September 1st, the team needs to get used to these comparisons and trolling till then.
