Prime Minister Narendra Modi has filed nomination from Varanasi amidst huge appearance of BJP activists and mega rally. Before filing the nomination, Modi offered prayers at Kaala Bhairava temple in Varanasi. Then he took a seven kilometres roadshow, waving to people as he passed by ghats in the holy town on the banks of the Ganga.

After the road-show, Modi met top leaders of BJP and NDA. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, AIADMK leaders O Panneerselvam, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari and others were present when Modi had filed his nomination.

Ajay Rai is contesting on behalf of Congress against Modi while Samajwadi Party and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party are fielding Shalini Yadav as the grand alliance candidate.

Varanasi will go for voting on May 19 which is the last round of the seven-phase general elections 2019. In 2014, Modi won Varanasi with a majority of 5.8 Lakh votes and we have to see what could be his majority this time.
