In an unfortunate incident, a man, who came out to buy milk during the 21-day lockdown announced by Union Government in the wake of Corona virus outbreak, died when cops had brutally beaten him.
32-year-old man from West Bengal’s Howrah had came out of his home on Wednesday (March 25, 2020) in order to buy milk, however, he was reportedly beaten by local cops. According to reports, he later passed away after thrashed by cops. The deceased’s family has alleged that he died of the injuries due to police.
The victim is identified as Lal Swami. His wife alleged that he had been lathicharged by cops when the police were clearing a gathering on the streets. Lal Swami, who was present on the street, was reportedly beaten up by police. As per reports, the victim was rushed to a local hospital. However, doctors had declared that he was brought dead.
Police have denied the charges made by victim’s family. Cops maintained that the victim had died of “cardiac arrest” and cops said the victim was already suffering from heart ailments. So far, West Bengal state has recorded 10 Covid-19 positive cases and 1 death. A 66-year-man has tested positive for the Covid-19 in Bengal, which is the 10th case in the state.
The man had no history of travelling abroad or outside the state. He had recently attended a wedding in Midnapore and might have come in contact with a person infected with the coronavirus. CM Mamta Banerjee had announced total shutdown of the state since Monday till March 31st.
