Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan-1 is keeping the cash registers ringing even after ten days of its release. The pan-India film, which was released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, is having a dream run at the box office.
The latest update is that Ponniyin Selvan-1 breached the Rs 400 crore club globally and become the third Kollywood film to do so after Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram.
Trade pundits expect that the big-budget epic drama will continue its rampage at the box office till Diwali and earn another 100 crores.
Starring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Aishwarya Lakshmi in pivotal roles, Ponniyin Selvan-1 tells the story of the Chola empire and their ruler Raja Raja Chola. The movie is produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. AR Rahman has composed music.
