Veteran South Indian actress Jayanthi has passed away due to illness on Monday, July 26. She was 76. She had been ill for the past few years and passed away this morning.
The popular actress, who had won the hearts of millions of people by portraying various roles over the last several decades, was also called as Abhinaya Sharadhe.
Jayanthi was a prominent name in the Kannada film industry during the 70s and 80s. She made her debut in the Sandalwood with ‘Jenugoodu’ directed by Y R Swamy, which was released in 1968. Having acted in over 500 flicks, the star actress has won six State awards (four Best Actress and two Best Supporting Actress).
Jayanthi also tasted success in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema. Born on 6 January 1945 in Bellary, then in the Madras Presidency, she fell in love with the famous actor-director Peketi Sivaram and got married. She has a son named Krishna Kumar.
