Prashant Kishor: Congress vice-president or KCR’s advisor?

Friday, it appears, is going to be a big day for the Congress party. If all goes well, ace poll strategist Prashant Kishor is likely to formalize his relation with the party and could take over as the vice-president of the party. If sources are to be believed, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi has given her nod to PK’s joining into the party.

But, what does it mean for the Congress in Telangana? PK is already an advisor to the ruling TRS and chief minister KCR is on record admitting that PK was his friend. So, what will be Telangana Congress Party’s stand towards the TRS in the state? Will it fight the TRS or make friends with the TRS to defeat a growing BJP? What will happen to the anti-TRS stridency of TPCC chief Revanth Reddy?

The Congress camp is now thoroughly confused about the future of its relationship with the TRS. If it joins hands with the TRS as part of the national strategy, it is sue to cede its place as an anti-TRS force. Voters opposed to the TRS would swing away from the party and could join the BJP. A stronger BJP would emerge as the sole alternative to the TRS. Thus, it would make substantial gains in Telangana.

A strong section of the Congress leaders in Telangana question as to how can PK advise the TRS and be in the Congress at the same time? They feel that PK will have to make his stand clear on his relationship with the TRS and also the YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh. Otherwise, there is bound to be confusion in the ranks of the party, these leaders argue.
