Lately, South films have been getting a phenomenal response in Bollywood. Telugu cinema is getting its due credit for its content and performances in the Hindi film industry. However, a certain section of the audience is not pleased with South films getting remade. Hindi film actors are being slammed for back-to-back remakes of South films, on social media.
Recently during the promotions of ‘Prithviraj,’ Akshay Kumar was reportedly questioned about it to which he said, “What is the problem with South films’ Hindi remakes?” His film, ‘OMG: Oh My God’ was remade in Telugu and was a great hit there. Telugu movie ‘Rowdy Rathore’ was remade in Hindi and it worked well. The actor reportedly questioned what is the problem with this trend.
Akshay also revealed that he has two more remakes in the pipeline namely ‘Selfie’ and a ‘yet to be titled’ ‘Soorarai Pottru’ remake film with Rakul Preet Singh which will be going on floors soon. Akshay has a pan-Indian film ‘Prithviraj’ hitting the theatres next. While a couple of other films such as ‘Raksha Bandhan’, ‘Ram Setu’ (which has Telugu actor Sathyadev playing a key role in it), ‘Mission Cinderella’ and ‘OMG-2’ are in the post-production phase now. ‘Prithviraj’ is slated for a theatrical release in south languages as well on June 3, 2022.
