Rank opportunism doesn’t always pay. It could even end up in double-whammy. One could end up losing both ways. Jana Sena’s lone MLA Rapaka Varaprasad may have realised this the hard way. He has now lost credibility both in the party he had won from and the party he is looking to work for.
Rapaka Varaprasad had a rare distinction of being the sole representative of Jana Sena. He had managed to win from Razole even when his party chief Pawan Kalyan was defeated in both the seats he had contested from in 2019. He had an opportunity to shine as an Opposition MLA and emerge as the lone voice of Jana Sena. Instead, he chose to hobnob with the YSRCP from Day 1. On the very first day, he was seen trying to get close to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Since then, he was a Jana Sena MLA only in name and was practically working as a satellite of the YSRCP. He then began taking over reins of the YSRCP in Razole. He even got his son to join the YSRCP.
But, today, he is neither here nor there. The Jana Sena cadres are angry with him, while the YSRCP loyalist do not trust him. They are trying to put spokes in all his works. The YSRCP leaders are opposing every step of the way. Now, he has neither Jana Sena to go nor YSRCP to stay. He now finds himself in a strange position.
