Reason Why Kumaraswamy Didn’t Swear-In Today

Amidst high drama, BJP’s Yeddyurappa resigned from the Karnataka CM post as the didn’t have the required majority ahead of the floor test. This paved the way to JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy’s ascend to the CM chair.

Kumaraswamy had the required number of MLAs carefully lodged in star hotels. On the other hand, the Governor has invited him to form the government. But Kumaraswamy had postponed his swearing-in ceremony to May 23 instead of May 21.This made everyone wonder what made Kumaraswamy to step back from going ahead with the oath taking ceremony. Apparently, it’s Kumaraswamy’s sentiment that has caused the delay.

Today (May 21) is former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary. Kumaraswamy felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to take charge of the CM office on this day of morning, especially when he is becoming the CM with Congress’ backing. Kumaraswamy also didn’t want to take oath on a Tuesday and thus he chose Wednesday (May 23) as the D-Day.
