The first film we remember when we hear about Madhubala is ‘Roja’. This classic directed by Mani Ratnam has been etched in the hearts of every film lover thanks to Mani Ratnam’s arresting visuals, AR Rahman’s magical music and the lead pair’s wonderful acting. Especially, Madhubala who played the title role got a lot of accolades.
She went on to act in many films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Her chemistry with Aravind Swamy in ‘Roja’ is beautiful and this iconic couple never acted together which surprised many. Nearly after 30 years, Aravind Swamy and Madhubala have come together for a pan-Indian film. They will be seen as husband and wife in ‘Thalaivi’ which is a biopic of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and legendary actress Jayalalitha.
Kangana Ranaut plays the title role in this much-awaited film and Aravind Swamy will be seen as legendary superstar MGR who played a crucial role in Jayalalitha’s life. Madhubala is going to essay the role of MGR’s late wife Janaki Ramachandran. Madhubala picks her movies carefully and she did not accept many films in her second innings.
Speaking about ‘Thalaivi’, she said, “It has shaped out really well and we were excited about its release. Unfortunately, the second wave of the coronavirus hit us in March 2021 and so we all felt the film shouldn’t be released. So, the makers postponed it. I feel that a film which has been shot so well, deserves a full chance for viewing. The destiny of a film is not in our hands, but a good film deserves to be watched by everyone.â€
Directed by AL Vijay, ‘Thalaivi’ is made in Hindi and Tamil. It will be released in multiple languages. The trailer got a massive response and the team made it clear that they are going to touch some of the sensitive and controversial subjects in Jayalalitha’s life too. The film was given a clean ‘U’ certificate by the censor board which surprised many. Written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, this film is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Shailesh R Singh and Brinda Prasad. The release date of this film is yet to be announced.
