Sankranti season is a big season for the film industry and this season is expected to be a special one in southern history. On one side top stars in Tamil are having a box office clash and senior heroes in Tollywood are locking horns. So an interesting debate on which film would become a hit is going on. Fans are also having a partial fight.
Let us look at the theatre business of the Sankranthi films. Thalapathy Vijay’s Varasudu is having a release in Telugu and Tamil. The Tamil version is getting released on the 11th of this month and the Telugu version will be released on January 14th. It is said that the Vijay starrer made a business of around Rs 140 crores.
Megastar Chiranjeevi’s upcoming film Waltair Veerayya is also carrying high expectations. The mass commercial film is arriving at the theatres on the 13th of this month. The Megastar starrer should collect more than Rs 90 crores to reach the target. Thala Ajith’s Thunivu/Thegimpu is also releasing in Tamil and Telugu for the Sankranti season. The action thriller is said to have done a business of around Rs 85 crores worldwide.
For the Sankranti season, the mass audiences’ focus is on Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Veera Simha Reddy. It is said that the revenge drama made a theatrical business of around Rs 72 crores. Even a positive talk will help Veera Simha Reddy achieve the target easily. Balakrishna starrer is carrying high expectations in Telugu and in Tamil Ajith’s Thunivu has a good buzz. We have to wait and see which of the films would emerge as box office winners.
