SC refuses to stay ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ release

It is a known fact that Alia Bhatt’s upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi has been landed in controversy after a petition filed by a person claiming to be Gangubai’s adopted son sought an injunction against the movie team.

However, the Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the petition seeking an injunction on the release of the movie. This verdict comes just a day ahead of the film’s planned theatrical release tomorrow, February 25.

According to reports, a bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and JK Maheshwari was hearing the appeal filed against the order of the Bombay High Court that refused to stay the release of the film.

The lawyers appearing for the director refuted claims, stating that the alleged adopted son of Gangubai was clueless about the book ‘Mafia Queens’ which was publicised 11 years ago and now when the film is releasing he becomes aware of it.

The Apex Court on Wednesday suggested that the director change the name of his movie in the wake of many pending cases before the courts seeking a stay to the release of the film, based on many factors.
