The movie lovers of the previous generation need no introduction about Jaya Prada. She is among the few Telugu actresses who saw big heights. Jaya Prada acted with the veteran stars. She also ventured into politics and served as the MP. Jayaprada is now with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The veteran actress is now in the middle of the headlines for the wrong reason. She was sentenced to six months of jail term along with a fine. In an old case, the verdict was given by a court. Along with the actress, a few others were also given a jail term.
Going into details, Jaya Prada and three others were given a jail term by the Egmore Court in Chennai for failing to pay the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) funds for the workers of a theatre despite collecting money from them. The issue was taken to the notice of the court and the verdict was given.
Earlier, Jaya Prada had a theatre in Chennai which was run by Ram Kumar and Raja Babu. After running successfully for a certain time, the theatre ran into losses which was closed later. However, the workers were not given the ESI funds though the money was cut from their accounts.
When the theatre was shut, the workers hoped that they would get the dues. But in vain. The workers then approached the Labour Government Insurance Corporation. With this, the corporation moved the court and the verdict was given.
It is said that Jaya Prada promised to clear the dues but did not do the same which forced the workers to wage a legal battle. This is seen as a big blow for the actress. Besides jail term, a fine of Rs 5,000 was imposed on the three.
