As a big blow to the grand old Congress party, senior leader Kapil Sibal quit the party and joined the Samajwadi Party. His Rajya Sabha nomination is backed by the Uttar Pradesh opposition party, making his entry to the Upper House clear. He can enter the house without any issues.
Kapil Sibal leaving the party is a big concern as the veteran leaders are raising their voices against the leadership demanding big changes in the party. He is among the 23 rebel Congress leaders who slammed the party for not encouraging the young leaders.
He has been in politics for a long time and his experience will come in handy for the party. However, reportedly issues are not well between the Congress party and the senior leader for some time. With Congress putting on a poor show, there is no chance of Congress making him enter the Upper House.
With the situation in Congress not favoring him and questions of Congress party sending him to the Upper House, the senior leader said goodbye to the party. The Congress party is a big loser here. Kapil Sibal has vast experience as he held several key positions at various levels.
Given the surprising decision taken by Kapil Sibal, it is expected that other senior leaders like Shashi Tharoor and others might also take a leaf out of him and opt for other parties that can support and nourish them. If the same happens, then it is no less than a death blow to Congress.
