Sequel to Patriotic Blockbuster ‘URI’ in the Works

Bollywood has witnessed a surge in biopics and films inspired by real-life events, with patriotic narratives resonating particularly well with audiences. A prime example of this trend is the 2019 blockbuster ‘URI: The Surgical Strike’, which depicted the Indian Army’s surgical strike against Pakistan.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film, starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead, was a critical and commercial success, grossing over ₹245 crores worldwide against a budget of ₹25 crores. Its portrayal of the Indian Army’s bravery and the film’s patriotic fervor struck a chord with the nation.

The film’s impact was such that dialogues like “How’s the Josh?” became popular catchphrases. Vicky Kaushal’s performance garnered widespread acclaim, solidifying his position as a leading actor in Bollywood.

Given the film’s immense success, it is no surprise that a sequel is in the pipeline. While official announcements are awaited, reports suggest that the sequel will also be centered around the Pulwama attack, the tragic event that preceded the surgical strike.

The original film capitalized on the nation’s mood at the time, and it remains to be seen if the sequel can replicate the same level of success. Nonetheless, the project has generated considerable anticipation among audiences.
