The Telugu Desam Party has a long record of supporting the backward and down trodden castes, and this fact is widely acknowledged. However, the TDP greatly lost the last elections, after which it has tried to incorporate this system even more.
The TDP has been making some significant changes in its system over the past few months, and has now announced a Dalit woman as the President of Telugu Mahila. Dalit leader and former MLA, Vangalapudi Anitha has been made the State President of Telugu Mahila, the party has also selected the Telugu Mahila presidents and general secretaries for each of the 25 parliamentary constituencies from the backward classes.
Additionally, of the 50 posts that have been filled, a majority of the posts – more than 21 of them – have been assigned to women belonging to backward classes. A total of 10 Presidents and 11 General Secretaries have been selected from women belonging to Backward castes. Eight women from Scheduled castes have been given the posts of General Secretaries, and one woman each has been made President and General Secretary from the Scheduled Tribes community.
On the other hand, 14 Presidents and 5 General Secretary posts have been given to women belonging to the OC community. The TDP has also made it a point to include women belonging to all age groups – from 20 to 60 – in these posts, for maximum diversity.
Furthermore, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu announced 25 New Parliamentary Units and 13 Parliamentary Observers for the party.
