The Government of Telangana which gave full consent to construction of Polavaram project, at the time of state bifurcation, has yet again approached Supreme Court to raise its objection. Representing Telangana government, the state General Administration Department principal secretary Ramakrishna Rao has filed an affidavit in apex court on Tuesday. This was in response to the petition filed by Senior Congress leader and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy.
In its fresh attempt to stall Polavaram, Telangana government said that the design, which received an environmental clearance in 2005, is no where close to the current design. The design that got clearance was for 30 lakh cusecs, but it is not planned for 50 lakh cusecs. The KCR government made an appeal to Supreme Court to direct AP to take a fresh environmental clearance for the new design. While informing that AP govt is already utilising the Godavari water through Pattiseema project, Telangana government also appealed to allocate its share from Pattiseema. Also, in the affidavit, Govt demanded a national project like Polavaram for Telangana as well.
The Telangana state government also wanted Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Rangareddy projects to be declared as national projects. Finally, the affidavit requested forb quick resolution of state division problems which are still pending. Though many committees are working on ground, several issues between two states are still left pending, alleged Telangana state.
