Telangana RTC workers’ fate hangs in balance!

The fate of over 48,000 workers of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is hanging in balance. They have realised the futility of continuing the strike as the government is hell-bent on refusing to consider their demands.

But when they called off their strike in desperation and frustration, they are not being allowed to continue their jobs. The government has refused to take them back and decided to continue with the temporary workers.

On Tuesday, tension prevailed in several bus depots, as thousands of workers who were trying to report to the duty were prevented from entering the depots and the police took them into custody.

Even before the employees reached their depots at 6 am on Tuesday, a large number of police were deployed across the bus depots to arrest the employees who wanted to join their duties.

The employees ended their 52-day long strike on Monday and announced resolve to get back to work on Tuesday. But the RTC management declared that they would not be allowed in their offices.

Sunil Sharma, RTC MD said they cannot take up the strike and join the duties at their whims and fancies. They have terminated themselves from services. They are not welcome back”, he said.

Sharma also warned the ‘dismissed employes’ against creating law and order problem by trying to enter the bus depots and offices. He said CCTV cameras have been installed at all depots and offices.

Sunil Sharma advised the employees to observe restraint till the labour commissioner takes a call on the issue as per the HC directive.

Employees JAC chairman Ashwathama Reddy requested the management to provide conducive environment for the staff to resume work. He also asked the temporary staff to stop working from Tuesday.
