After Telangana was bifurcated from the combined Andhra Pradesh in 2014 as a fulfillment of the long pending demand, the TRS government brought many schemes covering various sections of society. A few flagship schemes also encouraged other states to start them in their regions.
Three years after the state formation, the state government started the Midwifery program helping women to have natural birthing in state-run hospitals. The program is doing well and even received applause from the global body UNICEF.
The UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) which focuses on Children and their matters reacted to the scheme and said that the state is a flagship for midwifery in India.
Saying the same on the microblogging site Twitter the global health body shared a picture of a newborn baby and appreciated the state for working towards respectful maternity.
“Pictured moments after being born with the help of midwives at the Area Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana. Telangana is a flag bearer for Midwifery in India, working towards respectful maternity care and a positive birth experience for mothers.#ForEveryChild, a healthy start,” UNICEF said on Twitter.
The project was started by the Telangana government as a collaboration of the public and private sectors. Selected people are given training for the task. After completing the training they were taken into the jobs. They will not only help women have a natural birth but also educate them on the precautions they should take and the food they should take for good health.
