All major contenders in the GHMC elections are coming up their election manifestoes. Everyone is on a promise-making and assurance-giving spree. If one is promising moon, the other is promising two moons. Their is competitive populism among the parties.
But, there is one party that is not in the habit of releasing a manifesto.Guess who? It is Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen, the MIM. Interestingly, except once, the party has never issued a manifesto. It never promises anything to the voter. There are no assurances. The MIM did not issue a manifesto in the last GHMC elections. Even this time, it has no manifesto to go to the public.
In 2009, however, it did release what it called Greater Hyderabad Action Plan. The only time, it issued a manifesto was in 2002 and at that time, Asaduddin Owaisi’s father, Salahuddin Owaisi was the party chief.
The party believes that its door-to-door campaign in the morning and evening and a public meeting in the night are enough to get votes. Interestingly, the MIM had contested 60 divisions and won 44 last time. This time, it is contesting in 51 divisions only.
