Transgender Kajal Gets BSP MLA Ticket

Despite the fact that India has given the right to vote for Transgenders in 1994, there are not many transgender contestants in political space. Because no party will be willing to give them a ticket and asking the people to vote for them.

Back in 1998, Shabana Mausi Bano, a transgender from Madhya Pradesh has got elected to the assembly, and since then, there were no other contestants or MLAs ever from this community. And now, a transgender named Kajal Nayak has got into the election fray, thanks to Bahujan Samaj Party.

Despite asking many parties for a ticket, it’s heard that Kajal’s candidature was rejected by all until BSP decided to field her in Odisha’s Korei assembly seat in the upcoming elections. She also happens to be a social worker and also the president of transgender’s association of Jajpur area in that assembly segment.

In case if Kajal wins the seat, it will be a history to see that nearly after 20 years the first ever transgender got elected to MLA’s office, now the second one followed.
