The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is now the third richest regional party in India, revealed a survey by an NGO. The first and the richest regional party is Samajwadi Party, following by Tamilnadu’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), according to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
According to ADR, Samajwadi Party has the highest income at Rs 47.19 crore, followed by the DMK with an income of Rs 35.75 crore and TRS with an income of Rs. 27.27 crore. The NGO took into account the income and expenditure of 37 regional political parties for the financial year 2017-18.
Therefore, the total income of the top three parties amounted to Rs. 110.21 crore which compromises 46.45 per cent of the total income of the 37 regional parties collectively. However, expenditure-wise Telugu Desam Party stood third in line, with Samajwadi Party and DMK again standing in first and second positions, respectively.
“SP and DMK also have the highest expenditure with Rs. 34.54 crore and Rs. 27.47 crore respectively. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is third in line with Rs 16.73 crore,” revealed the NGO. Meanwhile, in the financial year 2017-18, Samajwadi Party, DMK, TRS, BJP and Janata Dal (United) have recorded an “excess income over expenditure.”
