Two young leaders… two political parties… two states…. Both have many similarities….Both have some differences too. We are talking about Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena in Andhra Pradesh and YS Sharmila-led YSRTP in Telangana. Both the parties are the hot topics for discussion in the political corridors of both the states.
Both Jana Sena and the YSRTP are led by charismatic leaders, who are well-known and come from very popular families. Sharmila comes from the YSR family, while Pawan comes from the Mega family, which is the numero uno in the film industry. Sharmila’s party has not contested any election so far. Both the leaders come from politically powerful communities. One is from the Kapu community, while Sharmila is from the Reddy community. But, both are unable to get complete support from their own communities.
Both the parties have no MLAs. Both haven’t contested any elections. The Jana Sena did contest the 2019 elections with disastrous results. Except one MLA, all leaders, including Pawan Kalyan bit the dust. Both the parties do not have any major leader worth the name. Both are literally leaderless parties. Despite that, both the leaders are targeting those in power and are attacking them in the strongest of the terms.
But there is one major difference. While Pawan Kalyan is able to attract huge crowds wherever he goes, Sharmila is unable to do even that. Her yatra is largely forgotten with the media not even bothering to cover it. Unfortunately, both the parties have failed to build the party organisation at the grassroots. Will both parties meet the same fate in the 2024 elections? Let’s wait and see.
