Indian government’s move to abrogate the ‘autonomous’ state of Jammu and Kashmir and revoke Article 370 and 35A and thus making it as a Union Territory has invoked severe reactions from neighbours Pakistan, China.
In a shocking move, Pak has went a step ahead and expelled Indian envoy in Pakistan. India’s High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria has been expelled by Pakistan and has been asked to leave the country. The move is seen as a counter to India’s decision on Kashmir. Pakistan has also recalled its envoy in Delhi. “Our ambassadors will no longer be in New Delhi and their counterparts here will also be sent back,” said Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The last time an envoy was expelled was in 2002.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also suspended ‘trade ties’ with India affecting both the countries. It has suspended the trade with India which is likely to affect both the countries. Now, besides escalating military at border, Pakistan is also contemplating to bring in Indian decision on Kashmir at the United Nations and the Security Council. Meanwhile, Pak has decided to observe its Independence Day (August 14) for protests and solidarity.
Apparently, Pak PM Imran Khan is under severe pressure domestically to be seen as doing something and in the wake of this, Pak wants to create sense of tension and crisis in front of international countries who usually intervene for peace and thus Imran wants to project that as a “success” of his efforts. But looks like, Imran’s strategy may not work as Modi and Shah are very pro-active and taking timely decisions on Kashmir issue.
