Union minister and senior BJP leader Narayan Rane was on Tuesday arrested from Chiplun city in Ratnagiri district over his remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Police have arrested Rane for participating in a Jan Ashirwad rally in Konkan. However, Narayan Rane filed a preliminary bail petition in the Ratnagiri court and it was cancelled. He was arrested by the police, who entered the field immediately after the bail petition was rejected. This created a tense situation in Maharashtra.
However, in the wake of the arrest, Narayan Rane filed a quash petition in the Mumbai High Court. A division bench of Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar, however, refused to hear his plea and said mentioning of the petition was not permitted and asked his lawyer to follow the procedure.
Four FIRs have been registered against Union Minister Narayan Rane in different areas. They are currently under investigation.
