#Unnao: ex-BJP MLA convicted of raping minor

Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar from Bangermau, Uttar Pradesh has been convicted by a Delhi Court of raping a minor back in 2017. This crime happened in Unnao village and ever since then this place is reporting unprecedented crime against women.

Coming to this incident, the victim could not file a complaint against the MLA until she threatened to set herself on fire before UP CM Yogi Adityanath. However, after this episode, the victim’s family was targeted. The girl’s father was arrested in an illegal arms case and later he died in police custody. However, for the victim justice is getting delayed and so she wrote to Chief Justice of India.

Following the CJI’s order, the case has been transferred to outside UP in Delhi. In this gap, the victim met with an accident earlier this year in July in which she detained serious injuries. The victim’s aunts got killed while the lawyer is in serious condition. The CJI further ordered the Delhi Court to record a statement of the victim in AIIMS and after detailed probe, Kuldeep Singh is convicted.

The MLA was booked under Sections 120 b (criminal conspiracy), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel for marriage), 376 (rape) and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Delhi court will decide the quantum of punishment on December 18th. With the above cases, Kuldeep Singh is like to serve maximum punishment of life imprisonment.

Earlier this month, another rape victim was set on fire by the rapists. She died of serious burns. The UP police have set up a SIT in this case yet there is no update on this till date.
