Ex-minister Gutta Mohan Reddy was booked and 25 rounds of bullets were seized along with his licensed gun for threatening a government official and a JCB driver with his weapon when they were involved in canal widening works at Urumadla village in Chityala mandal, Nalgonda district on Sunday evening.
The site engineer and the JCB driver were planning to begin the digging works for the canal. Learning that the officials were carrying out the digging near his land, the ex-minister rushed to the place and tried to disrupt the duo from taking up the work.
The ex-minister owns some land on the outskirts of the village and of this, a portion was acquired by the government for canal works. Being patta land, the government also paid the compensation as per the norms.
The ex-minister reportedly used abusive language against the site engineer and the JCB driver and even warned them of dire consequences if they went ahead with the works. The duo tried to convince the ex-minister but he took out the pistol in a fit of rage and aimed it at the engineer.
The engineer stopped the works and filed a complaint with the Chityala police. The cops learnt that Mohan Reddy is the relative of TRS leader Gutta Sukhender Reddy but the latter said that he had no connection with the incident.
Gutta Mohan Reddy won as the MLA twice—in 1978 and 1983. He also worked as a minister in Nandendla Bhaskar Rao’s Cabinet. The public is slamming Mohan Reddy for resorting to such hasty acts even when he had held some responsible positions in the government earlier.
