Earlier this year, Venkatesh Dagubait reluctantly agreed to the OTT release proposal for ‘Narappa’, the Telugu remake of Asuran. Venkatesh himself revealed that he put in his best efforts for Narappa and wanted the film to release in theatres. But that didn’t happen. The film premiered on Amazon Prime Video. This move drew stern backlash from Daggubati fans who wanted Narappa to release in theatres. Cut to now, Daggubati fans are likely to face another ‘OTT’ shock very soon as both Drushyam 2 and Virata Parvam are set to head the OTT way, as revealed by Suresh Babu, who is producing these films.
In his latest media interaction, Suresh Babu revealed that all of his ongoing and upcoming projects will be going the OTT way. “I will not release my films in theatres until I can safely send my family members to cinema halls. I am looking at the bigger picture now. OTT is the way forward as it is safe and negates the risk of Covid transmission which is a big scare associated with cinema halls now. Both my upcoming big-ticket films Virata Parvam and Drushyam 2 will be premiering on OTT sooner or later. More details about the OTT partners and the OTT release dates will be out in the days to come,” Suresh Babu revealed.
Well, this makes it clear that both Virata Parvam and Drushyam 2 will be landing on OTT sooner than later. It is already known that Netflix had bagged the digital rights of Virata Parvam. We can expect the film to land on Netflix soon. The OTT release date will be officially announced by Suresh Productions very soon. One thing that is for certain is the Virata Parvam is going the OTT way. Next comes, Drushya, 2. This film is a Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster Drishyam 2 and it always looked destined to join the OTT bandwagon. While a few say the film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video, others say it will land on Disney Hotstar. An official announcement on the same is awaited for now though. It appears to be that Daggubati fans are in for an OTT treat.
