The election season is generally fraught with public meetings and heavy campaigning schedules for party chief and key leaders from political parties. Now, the TRS party functionaries are a scared lot as they are jittery over gathering crowds for TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s public meetings.
After the TRS supremo was upset with a poor crowd turnout in Hyderabad at LB stadium recently, the party workers are whispering ear to ear on their challenge in mobilising huge crowd for KCR’s public meetings. On on hand, KCR has warned them that he would not turn up if there isn’t enough crowd. Party sources say that KCR is a man who enjoys public meetings and hence, demands on witnessing massive crowds at his rallies or election campaign meetings.
But, given that this is the summer and temperatures are soaring above 40 degrees celsius in Telangana, people are preferring to stay indoors. This is causing a lot of stress to TRS workers who are forced to bring crowds against their will. Another reason for low crowds at TRS party meetings nowadays is that the state had already witnessing a high-voltage assembly election in December 2018 and the Lok Sabha elections are not as appealing to them as the Assembly.
Meanwhile, even MLAs are lax about Lok Sabha election campaigns as they do not have anything for themselves in it. But, some MLAs who want to be in KCR’s good-books are scampering around to ensure that the huge crowd turnout also ensures them a cabinet berth or some nominated post in the government. In this regard, KCR has given clear instructions to some MLAs to ensure a clear margin for TRS in Lok Sabha polls. While this is keeping some of them busy, most of them are disinterested.
