Why Can’t Naidu Operate From Amaravati?

Strange are the ways of Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Even before the Centre imposed a nation-wide lockdown to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, he had deserted his Vundavalli residence in Amaravati and came to his palatial bungalow in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad.

It has been a month since he has been staying in Hyderabad, from where he has been operating his party through teleconferences and video conferences and has been writing letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan, chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and others on Covid-19 related issues.

While Naidu has been criticising the Jagan government for allegedly underplaying Covid-19 pandemic, his party leaders have been indulging in attack on the YSRC leaders from different parts of Andhra Pradesh. But there have not been any instances of the TDP leaders actively participating in any of the relief activities.

There would have been some meaning had Naidu come to Amaravati and pointed out mistakes in the administration of Jagan. But sitting in Hyderabad and making a loose talk has shown him in bad light.

YSRC general secretary and parliamentary party leader V Vijay Sai Reddy pointed out the same on Friday.

“Mr Naidu, you have been staying in Hyderabad. It would have been good had you taken a pass from the police and take part in some relief works for the poor, like NGOs and political parties who have been doing a lot of work for the people hit by lockdown to supplement the Telangana government efforts. At least for giving you shelter, you should have reciprocated,” he said.

Sai Reddy attacked Naidu for holding video conferences with the TDP leaders during the lockdown period either because he had no work or because of his publicity craze.

“What task have you given to your party leaders? What can they do in these circumstances? Nowhere can anybody see such strange things,” he said.

He alleged that there was no sincerity in any of the works done by Chandrababu Naidu. Had he been the chief minister of AP, he would have shown the Covid-19 positive cases in thousands and claimed that he had saved their lives.

“Where is the need for the government to downplay the number of positive cases? Instead of spending time with his grandson, why is Chandrababu making silly noises?” Sai Reddy asked.
