Why Owaisi Wants To Contest From UP?

The latest sources say that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi may contest from Uttar Pradesh in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Owaisi, a three time MP from Hyderabad constituency, likely to contest in Uttar Pradesh in addition to Hyderabad in the upcoming elections. In a recent party meeting in Hyderabad, AIMIM Uttar Pradesh chief Shaukat Ali proposed the same idea to Owaisi. Owaisi replied that his contest from UP will leave many people sleepless in the state.

Though Owaisi and his party is yet to take a call on it, his party believes that if Owaisi contests from UP, it will be from Muslim dominated constituencies like Azamgarh, Rampur, Ferozabad, and Saharanpur.

We are already aware of the fact that Samajwadi party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are in alliance for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. And Congress is contesting alone in the UP. With Owaisi’s entry in UP, the Muslim voters who are generally seen voting against BJP, will get divided between all these parties.

In the last Assembly elections, AIMIM fielded candidates in UP but couldn’t win any seats. With Owaisi’s entry, will the party be able to gain any LS seats is to observed closely.
