Mahanati, based on the life of legendary actor Savitri, is one of the most anticipated biopics in the film industry right now. The Tamil-Telugu bilingual is directed by Nag Ashwin under Swapna Movies Banner.Keerthy Suresh plays the role of mahanati Savitri in the film which is due for release on May 9 worldwide. The film will give glimpses of late actress’s personal and professional life to the present generation.
But the big question is will Mahanati narrate the entire story of Savitri?Veterans like K Rangavendra Rao, Jamuna etc, have directly expressed their displeasure for not being approached for sharing their memories of the iconic actress who ruled Tamil and Telugu cinema.However, the film’s director Nag Ashwin took inputs from Savitri’s daughter Vijaya Chamundeswari who was with the team during the pre-production as well as production works.
Though Vijaya Chamundeswari knew almost all aspects in her mother Savitri’s personal life, she may not be acquainted with her professional life since the legendary actress hardly allowed her children to visit her on the sets and hadn’t shown any interest to discuss films with them.So, many wonder to what extent the negative side of Gemini Ganesan will be shown in the film?
There’s no doubt that Nag Ashwin had done extensive research along with his team. But he should have approached actors or technicians who had worked with Savitri to gather maximum information about Savitri from her heydays to her troubled life, feel a few industry insiders.
