The Union government led by the saffron party Bharatiya Janata Party is acting tough against the alleged misuse of foreign funds by the trusts in the nation. A few trusts were banned in the nation already and the list involves the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust run by Sonia Gandhi, the former chief of the grand old Congress Party.
Centre already acted tough against these sorts of trusts and it is now the turn of YS Vijayamma to face the heat as the YS Vijayamma charitable trust was reportedly revoked. It is said that the trust was banned citing a few violations of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
The trust gets funds from others and after reportedly finding a few violations the license was canceled. Reports say that the trust failed to list the details of all the funding they received and how the amount was spent and for that the license was revoked.
The amendments made to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act by the BJP-led Union Government a couple of years back give the government great control over the NGOs which received foreign funds. If any violations are found the Centre can cancel the license of the NGOs.
The trust’s license was reportedly canceled despite the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh maintaining friendly relations with the Bharatiya Janata Party which is at the Centre. There is a strong belief among political observers that both parties have friendly ties though they won’t make it public. However, that could not save Vijayamma’s trust.
