In a significant development in YSRCP MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju’s arrest and bail episode, the Supreme Court on Monday ordered that the Member of Parliament (MP) be medically examined at Army Hospital, Secunderabad.
The order was passed by a Bench of Justices Vineet Saran and BR Gavai in an appeal filed by the Rebel YSRCP MP against a May 15 order of the AP High Court refusing him bail in the sedition case lodged against him.
As per the order, this period of examination will be treated as judicial custody. The SC directed the Telangana High Court to appoint a judicial officer who will be with the MP during the examination. His medical examination will be videographed and the medical reports have to be submitted to the SC in a sealed cover.
To this end, the bench has issued directions to the Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Registrar of the Telangana High Court. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on Raghu Rama Krishna Raju’s bail petition to Friday. The CID was directed to file a counter on the matter by Thursday.
