Even the biggest stars make mistakes in their career. A hero like Mahesh Babu made movies like ‘Nani’, ‘Brahmotsavam’ and others. Pawan Kalyan and NTR too delivered huge disasters which resulted in heavy losses. In the same way, Mega Power Star Ram Charan too took a misstep in 2013 by deciding to remake Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic movie ‘Zanjeer’ with the same name and use it as his launchpad in Bollywood.
Director by Apoorva Lakhia, this movie was an outright disaster and there was huge criticism on both director as well as the hero. But the ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’ director claims that the film’s result did not affect his relationship with the ‘RRR’ hero. He added, “Ram Charan is a really good friend of mine. In fact, even though Zanjeer didn’t perform well at the box office, I have visited him at his house in Hyderabad and stayed with him many times. But now, he doesn’t pick up my phone calls. I don’t know, maybe his phone has changed… His wife, Upasana, replies but he doesn’t.”
Talking about the time when Ram Charan called from Ukraine, Apoorva said, “He called me from Ukraine and asked what I was up to. I told him that I wasn’t doing anything major. He said, ‘I need to shoot two to three action sequences with the second unit, can you come and do it?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll get back to you.’ Then he called again and asked, ‘Can you?’ I was shooting something or working on something, so I couldn’t go. That was the last time, I think, I spoke to him. He randomly calls me, but he doesn’t answer my calls.”
Apporva Mehta started his career as an assistant to senior filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar. He worked on projects like ‘Lagaan’ before going on to direct flicks like Dus Kahaniyaan, Mission Istaanbul, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Haseena Parkar.
