A new Congress president will be elected in June. It is believed that a war of words also erupted during the Congress Working Committee meeting.
The CWC meeting was chaired by interim president Sonia Gandhi. The meeting was attended by all the CWC members. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was also present.
Some at the CWC meeting asked when the new president would be elected. It is reported that Ashok Gehlot was suddenly outraged over them.
According to Delhi sources, Gehlot spoke, “Why are you people thinking of holding institutional elections? Don’t you have faith in Sonia Gandhi’s leadership? The peasant movement is going on in the country. Commodity prices have risen. The economy is in its worst phase. There are many problems like this. Focus on them. Why are you bothering about institutional elections?”
