Exit polls for the five states were out yesterday, and most of the polls predicted a clear win for the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and DMK in Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
In West Bengal, despite exaggerated campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders, majority exit polls suggest that the people will again hand over power to the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
The Times Now C Voter (158), P Mark (158), ITG Research (169) and the Poll of Polls (155) announced that the Trinamool Congress would get a majority of seats, while CNX Republic TV said that it would get hung, while the BJP would get 143 votes.
At the same time, the Left-Congress alliance is projected to win 11-21 seats and play the role of Kingmaker. However, People’s Pulse gave a clear majority to the BJP with over 170 seats, while Trinamool is projected to get only 64-88 seats.
Without former CM Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK is falling apart in Tamil Nadu. The Stalin-led DMK is going to have an irreversible victory.
In Assam, before the elections, the Congress-led coalition appeared strong and in the end, it did not seem to be in a position to seize power. Statistics show that the BJP will come to power again.
In Kerala, where the Congress and the Left have been in power for five years, the Left is going to keep power contrary to tradition.
In Pondicherry, it seems certain that the NDA will come to power as the Congress, which was torn to pieces before the elections, did not contest. The results for the five states will be released on May 2.
