Female Tourist Arrested For Wearing ‘String’ Bikini

A lady tourist from Taiwan was arrested and fined with PHP2500 (US$48.40) for wearing a revealing bikini on the newly opened resort island of Boracay in the Philippines’. It is said that the woman wore a string bikini which was too revealing.

The Taiwanese woman was travelling the Philippines along with her boyfriend and the hotel staff, where she took accommodation told her that the swimwear was “inappropriate”. But, she disregarded their words, they said.

“They were told not to by the hotel management, but they said it was a form of art,” Boracay Inter-Agency Management and Rehabilitation Group (BIAMRG) chief Natividad Bernardino said. Calling it an erotic outfit, the woman has been taken into custody the very next day and fined her. This is not the first time as earlier too tourists failed in committing to local cultures.

The municipality police chief, Jess Baylon, told that tourists must respect our culture and tradition. The latest resort island opened in October has many strict rules like no revealing bikinis, the ban on single-use plastics, and limits to combustion engine transport.
