‘I stopped acting because of sexual demands’

Me Too campaign is a fight to stop sexual harassment and misconduct. Many victims have come out in the name of Me Too movement with an intention to expose hidden sexual assaults.

Recently, Malayalam actress Kani Kusruti has become a part of this campaign. She is popularly known for her films like Cocktail, Pisasu, and Shikkar. She also earned a huge name when she gave excellent performance in a Tamil short film called Maa.

Her allegations on the Malayalam film industry has caused many discussions all over the state. Kani said she has quit acting only due to sexual demands made by filmmakers. In fact, her strongest accusation was that few filmmakers have even approached her mother in order to convince Kani to fulfill their sexual demands.

Earlier, Kani was a theatre artist. But she couldn’t earn enough for a living in that field. She also added that she has a hope that the film industry will change and when it does, the whole credit will go to MeToo movement.

Not only Kani but a large group of actresses have also spoken their heart out about their personal experiences on the male dominant society and those who have been accused faced legal penalties.
