KCR’s 160 Crore Deal For Sarees!

Telangana Chief Minister KCR has shocked by ordering Rs 160 Crore deal for Bathukamma Sarees. The sarees would be distributed to women who holds ration-card. The Telangana state government is planning to order for over 86 Lakh sarees to women who are below the poverty line (who has white-card). The order for weaving the saris would be given to handloom and powerloom weavers in Telangana, particularly those in Sircilla.

This is now expected to be a win-win situation as it would help both the handloom weavers who are going through a lean phase as well as the women in BPL. This is expected to cost a staggering Rs 160 Crore to the public money and distribution of sarees is scheduled for Bathukamma, a traditional festival of the state.

This is not all. Another 5 lakh sarees order is to be given as part of the KCR Kit.It will cost another `12.5 crore. The KCR Kit consists of 16 essential things needed for a newborn and will be useful for up to three months. The kit comes packed with soaps useful for mother and child, baby oil, baby bed, mosquito net, dresses, saris, handbag, towels and napkins, powder, diapers, shampoo and toys for the kid.

After announcing a slew of welfare schemes such as distribution of fish, sheep, two-bedroom houses, 12 per cent reservation for Muslims and Rs 1,000 pension to single women, the latest Bathukamma sarees is expected to garner a huge applause from the masses.

While Opposition leaders allege that it is an “election stunt” by KCR given reports of advancement of elections (2018), TRS leaders maintain silence at the moment as the orders are yet to be made official. At the moment, the reports of these saree orders are creating ripples in political circles.
