Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh resigns after HC orders CBI probe

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh resigned today considering the Bombay High Court directing a preliminary CBI investigation against him following the allegations of former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh.

Citing moral grounds, the Minister said that he doesn’t feel right to continue in the position of the home minister. Deshmukh is expected to submit his resignation to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

As per reports, Dilip Walse Patil will take over as the new state Home Minister. Meanwhile, the leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that Anil Deshmukh was left with no alternative but to resign after the Bombay high court ruling.
