The constant criticism around Superstar Akshay Kumar holding a Canadian passport is known to everyone. Recently when he didn’t go to the polling booth to cast his vote in the general election it has come out that he holds Canadian citizenship and that’s the reason why he didn’t vote.
This discussion led to netizens accusing Akshay of hypocrisy as he preaches about nationalism and patriotism in his films but actually gave up Indian citizenship. Since then, Akshay tried to answer the question whenever possible, and recently he clarified the reason behind applying for Canada’s citizenship.
“Back then, 14 of my films flopped in a row, pushing me into thinking that my cinema career is over and I need to look for alternate businesses. A best friend of mine stays in Canada and he advised me to come over there to start a business there. Then we have applied for Canada citizenship. But it’s been seven years I’ve gone to Canada, as my fate changed after I got a hit, and there’s no looking back since then” said Akshay, at a conclave.
What is Akshay’s permanent answer to criticism? “We have all applied for Indian citizenship now, and soon I will get Indian passport” he concludes.
