A dharna conducted by opposition parties had turned into a violent protest as six persons were injured and several received minor bruises when the protesters clashed. The dharna was conducted against the state government’s decision to shift the dharna chowk from Indira park to outskirts of the city.
Dharna chowk is a common place for staging dharnas by all political parties and social organisations since decades in Hyderabad.
While all the opposition parties – including archrivals BJP and the Left – staged a protest demanding that Dharna Chowk’s location not be changed, the residents of adjoining colonies and morning walkers at Indira Park staged parallel dharna demanding to shift the chowk at it created inconvenience to them every day.
When the dharna for and against the shift of the chowk was conducted, police swung into action and tried to dispel the mob. The protesting groups clashed each other and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals immediately.
