Hyderabad: Here are ten quick facts about veteran director Dasari Narayana Rao, who had a unique distinction of having his image on his film posters as prominently and as big as the hero’s photograph.

  • He is the first director to have his name in a very prominent name along with the hero’s name.
  • Dasari was born on May 5, 1941. He is 75 and is survived by a daughter and two sons.
  • Dasari acted in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films.
  • He directed 151 films, produced 53 films and wrote dialogues for over 250 films. Dasari holds Guinnes Record for most films as a director. He also wrote several plays.
  • He won two national awards, nine Nandi awards and four Filmfare awards. He was conferred honorary doctorate by the Andhra University in 1986.
  • His first film is Tata Manavadu (1972) and his last film is Errabassu (2014).
  • Among his hits are: Sivaranjani, Megha Sandesham, Premabhishekam, Bobbilipuli, Bahudurapu Batasari, Tandra Paparayudu, Sardar Paparayudu, Turpu Padamara, Katakatala Rudraiah, Greeku Veerudu, Lankeswarudu, Osey Ramulamma, Swargam Narakam and several others.
